To clarify one thing, these are all brand new controllers with zero wear/playtime put on them.

UPDATE 2:

We accept stock-still an upshot where a Nintendo Switch console with organization menu version 10.0.0 or x.0.1 does not set up a new Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, sometimes causing incorrect joystick control.

Hmmmm... perchance this was my outcome all along?

UPDATE:

Uhmm... well, at that place has been odd modify of events.

I went effectually researching Reddit and Youtube and found a video that suggested pressing downwards on the sticks and blowing inside to loosen up any droppings. Me and my brother laughed, merely we tried it anyways, and the sticks at present sit dead eye. I don't know if this is a permanent fix or if it'll bear witness up over again, but aye...

To preface this, I went through 5 Xbox One controllers that suffered from like analog stick issues on the right stick earlier getting one that works perfectly, so I immediately know what to look for. This is the commencement time I've experienced it on the left.

Me and my brother decided to purchase Switch Pro controllers, and our local store had some in stock so we went down to grab some. First game we endeavour it on is Smash Bros and nosotros simply didn't notice anything even so. And then nosotros jump over to Animal Crossing and this is where it gets bad. Correct as nosotros both walk out of our homes, our characters immediately start walking downwardly and to the left without any input required. I run up and let go of the stick to let it flip back to see if my graphic symbol dead stops, but instead of stopping my graphic symbol once more starts walking down on its own. Aforementioned with my brother's controller.

I decide to take this to the Switch controller calibration screen for the sticks and I saturday there re-calibrating equally much every bit possible, only I noticed something. If I hold the stick in place, or have the screen upward on my joy-con with no issues, the cursor is dead set on the scale screen with a green + to indicate it is dead center. These Pro controllers never have that unless I hold the stick in place. As before long as I let go, information technology's slightly off to the bottom left, which indicates an actual mistake on the hardware level resulting in my characters in games moving on their own.

And then now I'thou stuck hither because the controller is extremely comfortable and playing BotW on the joy-con with grip is a bit painful at times, merely I accept replaced half dozen Switch Pro controllers at this indicate all with the same verbal underlying effect that makes games unplayable.

Same here with my first Switch Pro controller (launch unit). My Animate being Crossing character starts walking to the left on his own. Have to go a new one I'm agape.

And so again, my controller has been used 500 hours between BOTW and Animate being Crossing alone....it'due south kind of ok.

I go along having to accident into the north inner side of the left analog stick of my pro controller to avoid it causing sudden stops of movement during gameplay while moving forrad.

I've also bought three dissimilar PS4 controllers that have went to shit on me in less than two years.

Is anything to congenital to last anymore? Fuck.

At this rate I'm going to run through my local stores stock because every unmarried 1 has a left stick that is faulty right out of the packaging.

I've read about the joy-con nightmare stories and luckily my joy-con are perfect, but for this to be consistently happening on brand new $70 "Pro" controllers with no previous wear whatsoever? Shame on Nintendo.

Nintendo but completely forgot how to make controllers this gen and it confounds me.

Might want to consider high quality third political party controllers at this bespeak. I got an 8BitDo SN30 Pro+ so far it'due south peachy.

Joy Con wear never happened immediately, it happens over time.

My SN30 Pro is nice, merely the dpad is just as bad as a pro controllers, gonna have to break out the scotch tape all over again because I tin't return it.

11 controllers and 1 common denominator.

Do you e'er think that you are mistreating or existence to crude with your controllers?

Undoubtedly there are problems with controllers an failures do happen but you seem to be incredibly unlucky.

I have the same problem on my launch pro controller - which sucks since I also have two pairs of drifting joycons...

Can't empathise the praise this controller gets - dpad is shitty and sticks drifts, and yet people love it.

glasiche
  • #12
Had that recently and solved it without having to open the controller up.

For my solution, it turns out whats making the analog stick drift is that theres dust from the stick rotation blocking a sensor under it.

Literally but utilise tin can air or accident into the left bottom opening of the joystick. That'south it, for me information technology solved the problem completely and I didn't have to buy a new controller which I had been planning on doing.

If information technology happens to start globe-trotting again I exercise the aforementioned trick and information technology works the same. I can see someone needing to open the controller if they have an backlog of dust accumulated, but if it's a dust/sensor issue that volition take care of information technology

I went effectually researching Reddit and Youtube and found a video that suggested pressing down on the sticks and bravado inside to loosen up whatsoever debris. Me and my blood brother laughed, but we tried it anyways, and the sticks at present sit dead heart. I don't know if this is a permanent fix or if it'll bear witness up again, but yeah...

Practice you ever recall that you are mistreating or being to rough with your controllers?

It's hard to mistreat or be rough with a brand new controller right out of the box don't yous recall? It's not similar these are issues showing up days or weeks afterward. As I explained, these are issues showing upwards straight out of the box. So aye, I am extremely unlucky, though I haven't had issues with my Dualshock 4 controllers which is nice.

But given my earlier comments, I'll wait and see what happens.

Yeah I don't know what happened to Nintendo this gen (or Sony, or MS tbh). Controller QA for every console is pretty shitty. PS4 controllers have shit batteries and the pollex grips wearable downward, Xbox Elite controllers take a ton of issues, and Switch joycons and pro controllers...well, y'all know.

It'south especially frustrating considering how expensive all controllers have gotten

No, it's not ok.

A controller should endure 10x of those 500 hours.

My launch Pro Controller has a messed upwardly battery that randomly refuses to work, which is bully for a $70 controller to stop working after two.5 years. I'm not taking the run a risk over again.

My launch day pro controller has over 4000 hours on it, and also the shitty D-pad it still works as skillful every bit information technology did in 2017. Still rocking my OG joy-cons, too, but they've only had a few hundred hours of action, and I did send them for repairs the first week to get the connectivity problem sorted.

Still, every twenty-four hour period I dread i or both of 'em start drifting.

Edit: Checked the numbers, actually over 4000 hours, not 2000.

+250h in Smash
+80h in Skyrim
+60h in Xenoblade 2
+100h in Splatoon 2
+100h in Witcher 3
And a lot more.

My only Pro Controller has never given me whatsoever kind of trouble.

Are you the Cookie Monster, making piles of crumbs that shoot right down your controller thumb sticks?

Would have to forward that question to the manufacturers building controllers with these issues direct out of the box.

Maybe it's an issue of sitting in their packaging for too long and accumulating dust/debris? Can't come up with any other explanation to justify the solution of simply blowing hard into the stick housing lol.

I keep having to blow into the north inner side of the left analog stick of my pro controller to avoid it causing sudden stops of movement during gameplay while moving forwards.

I've also bought 3 unlike PS4 controllers that have went to shit on me in less than two years.

Is annihilation to congenital to last anymore? Fuck.

I had to do the same affair with my DS4 for over a year until it finally started working properly, I don't think the stick drifts at all anymore after using it pretty heavily on stuff similar Bloodborne and Dark Souls ii.

My pro controllers d-pad did the aforementioned thing after getting bad inputs for a while, merely forced myself to use it for somethings(communicating in Rocket League, Puyo puyo Tetris) and it eventually started responding way better.

  • #32
Your fix won't last much, information technology's a constant problem.

The quality control of the switch controllers (joycons and pro) are abysmal, for the price they're asking information technology's a robbery. The fact that they got abroad basically unscathed is insane.

Some sort of user error going on hither to encounter that many faulty controllers. Either super dirty home, too many Doritos while gaming or heavy smoker. Or maybe placement of controller when turning them on.

The blow into the controller does piece of work though. It cleans off the carbon dust from manufacturing. It fixes Xbox one controllers who accept dpads that miss or double inputs likewise.

Between this issue, the price and the Switch Pro'south garbage d-pad, Nintendo'southward controllers have been pretty unacceptable this gen.

Aye, I don't want to be THAT guy simply it seems Nintendo's QA may be a little less strict this gen? My Switch is having issues reading carts, not to mention I had a faulty screen 6 months after buying it (this was thankfully still within warranty) and my OG neon joy-cons have drifting issues :/

I feel like a broken record constantly repeating myself on pinnacle of the assumptions information technology has to do with muddy environment/user error, especially because I updated the OP in bold to reflect such is not the case at all, so let me iterate on information technology once once again.

THESE ARE BRAND NEW CONTROLLERS OUT OF THE BOX. Nada USAGE, DIDN'T EVEN SPEND 1 Minute IN MY ROOM BEFORE TESTING FOR AND DISCOVERING SAID Consequence.

This applies to my previous feel with the XB1 controllers, and my current experience with the Switch Pro controllers. I'm getting alien info here that bravado into the sticks can fix information technology for good, or it'll popular back up, so time volition tell but from my few hours of gaming earlier information technology is fine and then far.

But please, please, but read the OP.

I have e'er stored my controllers horizontally with the sticks facing upwards, sometimes in a cabinet or drawer, other times on my desk-bound then I can practise regular cleaning of the controllers as I clean my desk-bound.

I have the aforementioned exact upshot on my Splatoon 2 Pro controller for the past two years. It started with the left stick and so concluded up happening to both sticks, then earlier each play session it is literally a necessity for me to blow into the corners of the sticks a few times to ensure a polish experience. I tried an air compressor and it literally seemed like it exacerbated the issue for me. The merely solutions that (temporarily) work are OP's suggestion, and if yous want to take it one pace further, squeeze a straw in there and blow.

Not my PS4 controller, not my Xbox One controller (Elite is a different case) and not my Switch controller. They ALL break downward in some way, and I always am extra careful and very clean with them.

It really sucks, yes, but it happens non stop to all of them.

My 2 year old Pro controller is still working nicely *knock on forest*, but I've had three drifting left sticks in Nintendo's garbage joy-cons. I'grand but floored at them standing to sell that garbage design instead of making new sticks.

Controller drift is new to me, I know it tin can/does happen to all brands - but I've never personally had to bargain with information technology before ownership a Switch. My sometime PS2 controllers nonetheless work, my PS3 and PS4 controllers with thousands of hours on them even so work flawlessly. And so I buy a Switch and the showtime joy-con breaks downwardly in less than half-dozen months of light utilize and then it's just been a echo of that shit. I've never seen as much online chatter about globe-trotting and shit controllers every bit I've seen with the joy-cons.

My launch day Vita with thousands of hours of play time on information technology even so works flawlessly.

  • #49
I accept 2 joycons with drift bug, 2 DS4 with drift problems on the left stick (and one of them has a not working R2 buttom) and somehow the Pro Controller is doing fine for now despite being the nigh used one of the bunch with over 600h.

Crossing fingers simply this generation of controllers has evidenced a lower QA and production values.

  • #50
my switch pro controller lasted effectually nine months before getting severe stick drift. had it sent into nintendo for repairs and it'south been okay since, but the fact that a £55 controller lasted less than a year of mild use before shitting the bed is honestly unbelievable. didn't help that a few months later the same thing started happening to my joycons. the fact that both types of controller are susceptible to the same crippling issue is inexplainable.
